Wander around a French market

French marketOn Saturday mornings visit the famous local market in Sainte Foy-la-Grande. You can wander through the streets taking in the wonderful smells of local cheeses, meats and fresh produce.

Lascaux caves

Lascaux cavesA visit to the caves is a great day out. Lascaux, one and a half hours drive away is the setting of a complex of caves famous for its prehistoric cave paintings. The original caves are located near the village of Montignac but were closed in 1973. In 1980 the Dordogne Department tourism authority was given the task to reproduce the two most representative sections of the site, the Great Hall of the Bulls and the Painted Gallery. Here you will find some of the oldest human artwork ever discovered, estimated to be 16,000 years old. Lascaux Caves website.

Visit Château de Monbazillac

Chateau de Monbazillac20 miles from Les Saules is the 16th Century Château de Monbazillac which is set in the heart of the prestigious vineyard of the same name. It is fully furnished and open all year round to visitors. After visiting the Château you are offered a complementary tasting of Monbazillac wine. www.chateau-monbazillac.com

A round of golf at the internationally renowned Château des Vigiers

Chateau des Vigiers logoA spectacular 27 hole golf course located just 15km from Les Saules. The original 18 hole golf course was opened in 1991 and is set amidst plum orchards, oak woods, lakes and vineyards. A fantastic 9 hole course has been added recently and integrates beautifully into the existing course.

kayaking on the river DordogneThere are several locations along the River Dordogne where you can hire canoes and kayaks. The closest rental spots are in Sainte Foy-la-Grande. Visit Canoe Kayak - Port Sainte Foy website . It is great fun for adults and children, beginners are welcome and there are lessons available during school holidays.

Action packed time for thrill seekers

Pro Glisse lakeJust 10 minutes from Les Saules you'll find Pro Glisse – a 15 hectare sports and leisure complex. You can go Jet-skiing on a lake with a hired seated or standing jet-ski. Lessons are available for beginners.

Lac de Gurson

Lac de GursonLac de Gurson has an 11-hectare lake with sandy beaches allowing you to swim or hire pedaloes during the high season. Also a 4-hectare fishing lake has daily permits available. There is a shady park for picnics, two tennis courts as well as a ‘boules’ playing area. For children there are roundabouts and climbing frames and a volley ball area.

Aqua Park and Junior Land

Aqua Land - BergeracGreat fun for all the family at the Aqua Park and Junior Land in Bergerac. There are 4 pools, a water slide, jacuzzi, table tennis, beach volley ball and picnic tables.

Karting in Bergerac

Bergerac KartingA fantastic karting circuit is located in Bergerac providing lots of fun for adults and children over 7 years of age. www.bergerac-karting.com

 

Spend a day in St Emilion

St Emilion squareSaint Emilion wines are renowned and enjoyed all around the world and from mid May to mid September you can go on a guided tour in the vineyards. The tour starts at the Tourist Office every afternoon from Monday to Saturday and includes: Introduction to the vineyards and visit to a wine château with wine tasting.
